Beyond Public API
Last updated
The Beyond Public API is a REST API that lets your server generate, edit, upscale and vary images, and start image-to-video or text-to-video jobs, with the same Gemini and OpenAI templates and system prompts Beyond's own Create and Edit pages use. Every call is authenticated with a bearer API key, returns a JSON envelope, and is limited to 15 generation requests per minute per key.
| Base URL | https://midjurney-create.vercel.app/api/v1 |
|---|---|
| Authentication | Authorization: Bearer idogen_sk_… (server-to-server only) |
| Format | JSON in, JSON out: { success, data } or { success, error } |
| Rate limits | 15/min per key for generation; 60/min for capabilities and video polling |
| Image providers | Gemini (default), OpenAI, NVIDIA, fal |
| Video providers | Veo (default), Seedance 2.0 via WaveSpeed, fal or poyo |
How do I authenticate with the Beyond API?
Every request needs an API key created from Beyond Settings → Public API Keys. Send it as a bearer token:
Authorization: Bearer idogen_sk_...Server-to-server only. Never call this API directly from a browser — the key would be visible to every visitor. Call it from your own backend, then serve the result to your frontend.
An invalid, missing, or revoked key returns 401.
What does a Beyond API response look like?
Every response is one of:
{ "success": true, "data": { ... } }
{ "success": false, "error": "..." }data mirrors Beyond's own internal API response for that action (same fields as the Create/Edit pages get back).
What are the rate limits?
Per API key, not per IP:
generate / edit / variations / upscale / video— 15 requests/minutecapabilitiesand video status polling — 60 requests/minute
A rate-limited request returns 429 with a Retry-After header.
Who pays for generations?
By default, generations run on Beyond's own Gemini/OpenAI keys. To use your own instead, include it in the request body:
{ "config": { "prompt": "...", "openai_api_key": "sk-..." } }Gemini: pass apiKey at the top level of the body instead of inside config.
Which endpoints does the API have?
POST/api/v1/upload
Bring your own image into the gallery at full quality (no resize/recompress) and get back an id you can pass anywhere reference_image_ids / imageId is accepted. Accepts exactly one of: a multipart file field, JSON { url }, or JSON { base64 }. Max 8MB — bigger images should use { url } since request bodies are capped around 4.5MB.
Body:
// multipart/form-data: field "file"
// or JSON:
{ "url": "https://example.com/photo.jpg" }
// or:
{ "base64": "data:image/png;base64,..." }Example:
curl -X POST https://midjurney-create.vercel.app/api/v1/upload \
-H "Authorization: Bearer idogen_sk_..." \
-F "file=@photo.jpg"
# or by URL:
curl -X POST https://midjurney-create.vercel.app/api/v1/upload \
-H "Authorization: Bearer idogen_sk_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"url":"https://example.com/photo.jpg"}'POST/api/v1/generate
